Pulled the rear end apart, ring and pinion looked great.  Cleaned everything up, regreased the bearings, tightend to specs, and reinstalled the assembly with the help of human hydraulics.

  Just like they would have done in the field!!  Ya right.  "Hey, I think I feel a tight spot in the rotation.  Maybe we should have put that pinion shim back in.
