| There are many variations of the
"Halftrack" and Fighting Iron is restored to the basic M3 Personnel Carrier.
The markings on this vehicle are for the World War II invasion of France. The unit designator on the bumper 26X signifies the 26th Infantry Division (Nicknamed the Yankee Division, originating in Massachusetts) which entered the European Theater of Operations by coming ashore at Utah Beach in September of 1944. The designator 26RCN denotes the 26th Reconnaissance element of the 26th Infantry Division. The designator HQ- 6 denotes the number six vehicle of Headquarters Company part of the 26th Recon. There were six half-tracks assigned to the Headquarters Company. The primary mission of the Halftrack in this Infantry Division was hauling ammunition to the scout vehicles attached to the reconnaissance element of the division. |
